Our Mission Statement
Swingout OKC is dedicated to facilitating, sustaining, and growing the swing dance community of the greater Oklahoma City area by providing educational and social swing dance opportunities. We strive to promote a forward thinking scene while preserving the historical culture of the dance.
Become a community hub for all forms of swing dance, spurring integration of the diverse people of the greater Oklahoma City area through intentional outreach and fostering a safe and welcoming community for education and expression in the form of swing and jazz dance
Swingout OKC began when a handful of strangers found each other at a public city dance event. We decided that while there might not currently be a swing dance scene in OKC, there would be if we kept showing up for each other and for new dancers. We love being a part of this city, participating in local events, and getting people excited about swing dancing.
We started dancing in 2016 as a group of strangers who found first found each other at a public city dance. Back then, we called ourselves the “Oklahoma City Swing Dance Collective”
We began official operations as “Swingout OKC” and hosted our first Lindy Workshop in April. Stay tuned for more info on the next Scissortail Swing!
2023 marked the beginning of our partnership with Perets Dessert & Coffee Bar.
We’ve done tons of community outreach and events in the past. Here’s a few highlights!
We threw our first interstate dance event in 2019. Over 200 dancers from around the USA came to OKC to dance with us and learn from professional dancers from Texas and Washington.
We gathered a group of 16 dancers to learn and practice classic Lindy Hop routines to perform at the Will Rogers Theatre on New Year’s Eve. We even danced with guests and taught mini lessons!
We partnered with the Oklahoma City Parks & Rec Department to host a beginner lesson and dance with live music from the Savoy Trio.
Our bread and butter are our biweekly dances that we host at Perets Dessert & Coffee Bar in OKC. We even teach a lesson before!

Swingout OKC is an entirely volunteer-run group. Our council members give their time to help bring swing dancing to the people of Oklahoma City.

We are a fully volunteer operated Nonprofit Organization. By volunteering with us, you not only help keep our scene running, but you also get in free for that evening!
We can approve and verify any volunteering hours required for school, scouts, or corporate matching
Volunteer at the Front Desk, as a DJ, or as a Teacher.
We’ll even train you for any role you’d like to learn!
Our council members help organize and vote on major decisions for our nonprofit.
We dedicate between 1 and 4 hours a week, depending on our roles.
Any donation goes directly into operations and events for us.
